New Annual is coming to Newcastle, and with such a wide variety of arts, music, theatre, and performance descending on the city there is something for everyone to enjoy!

With live music throughout the city, pop-up bars and festival areas, along with special market events celebrating independent artists and makers in the heart of Newcastle, New Annual is an event you can’t afford to miss out on.

In this edition of ‘how-to New Annual’, we’ve picked out a couple of events worth checking out for the younger creatives among us!

Civic Bar Beats
New Annual’s unofficial ‘Festival Club’, Civic Bar Beats will be showcasing live music and more throughout the festival from 5pm.
February 12 – 14, 17 – 21

Civic Bar Beats is the perfect place to grab a drink with a friends, kick off a night out, or stop in before heading to another New Annual event all against the backdrop of live music in the heart of Newcastle.

With eight Newcastle musos on hand to ease you into those warm summer evenings throughout New Annual, Civic Bar Beats is the place to be in February.

Invisible Stone by e4444e, David Lobb, and Skip Wilcox
What: A unique, collaborative work from which blends music, dance, stage production, and incredible visual to pose the questions: what’s beyond us and what is within us?
When: Thursday 18 February, 8pm
Where: Civic Theatre

A part-planned, part-improvised collaboration between three incredibly unique performers brings Invisible Stone to life at New Annual.

Experimental musician and triple j unearthed artist e4444e combines with lifelong friend and collaborator, lovedavid and choreographer Skip Wilcox to bring a truly mesmerising concept to life.

Blending sonic compositions with the intimate and morphic interpretive movements of dancer Allie Graham, this one-off art, sound and dance experience at the iconic Civic Theatre is not to be missed.

The Hangar
Part-cabaret theatre, part-bar, part-festival hub. The Hangar will showcase performers inside it’s temporary shipping container theatre, while providing a bar and festival vibe right outside for most afternoons throughout New Annual.
From 4pm ‘til 10pm, February 13 – 14, 17 – 21
Where: Civic Park, Newcastle

A temporary shipping container venue installed in the heart of Civic Park for the duration of New Annual, The Hangar is Newcastle’s version of a Speigeltent.

Along with its anchor show, the Intergalacular Sci-Fi Spectacular, The Hangar will showcase several local artists and performers while providing a bar and festival space for visitors to enjoy before, during, and after performances.

What: Olive Tree Markets will be hosting two special market events throughout New Annual, celebrating locals makers and creators.
When: Saturday 13 February and Saturday 20 February
Where: Civic Park, Newcastle

Beloved by locals, the Olive Tree Markets are the perfect space for visitors to engage with Newcastle’s ever-growing and ultra-talented pool of makers and creators.

On both weekends of New Annual in February, Olive Tree returns for 2021 to provide Newcastle’s contemporary artists and designers with an arena to showcase their work.

This is the perfect place to help support a burgeoning Newcastle arts and creative sector, while picking up that something special for yourself!
